  • Eco project "Blue Researchers" starts free of charge for Burgas children

The Municipality of Burgas together with the "Chance for Children and Nature of Bulgaria" Foundation announce the start of the educational module "Blue Researchers", which will be implemented under the project № BGENVIRONMENT - 2.003-0003 "Implementation of measures to reduce marine litter in the Burgas Bay" "Small grant scheme for measures to reduce marine litter" under the program "Environmental protection and climate change", funded by the EEA FM 2014-2021.

Children and young people aged 7 to 18 will have the opportunity to participate for free in an eco-project that aims to introduce them and confront them with one of the most serious environmental problems of today, namely the pollution of the world's oceans with waste.

"Until recently, this problem sounded like a distant thing to us and it was difficult to connect it to our Black Sea. But the waste it dumps on the beaches, as well as the discovery of an island of rubbish floating on its surface, shows that the problem is already at the doorstep. We are convinced that conducting educational campaigns to deal with the problems of pollution of the seas and oceans with waste forms our children as conscious and responsible individuals and is an important part of the efforts to permanently improve the situation," said Liliana Slavova, Chairwoman of "Chance for the children and the nature of Bulgaria Foundation.

The curriculum starts on 15.04.2021 at the Center for Young Talents, Burgas and includes interactive methods and games, applied activities and excursions, skillfully and in a form accessible to children for learning important concepts and helps to make the free time of participants meaningful. Classes will be held every Thursday from 17:30 - for children from 7 to 11 years and every Saturday from 17:00 - for the age group 12-18 years.

"Protecting and restoring the marine environment is a moral duty of each of us. How to save the world from ecological catastrophe, how to properly protect the environment, the seas, the oceans, how to be more socially aware and how to live more environmentally friendly, all this is embedded in the training of adolescents in the eco-project "Blue Researchers", said Assoc. Prof. Dr. Svetla Dalakchieva, a famous Bulgarian ornithologist and biologist with many years of experience in scientific work and author of the project.
