Module project "The Different Mathematics" of club "I know it all"

The module project "The Different Mathematics" club "I know it all" is for students from third, fourth and fifth grade, with underlying mathematical inclinations and interests, aims to promote and improve their development from an early age through unconventional creative working methods.

The program does not duplicate the curriculum in school - it builds and upgrade knowledge and skills of children. Includes four modules: "Randomness + Mathematics", "Quantifying opportunities", "In the world of numbers", "Acquainted with IT (Information Technology) ', each of 10 weeks 4 hours a week.

Aims & tasks:

  • to introduce children to the fascinating beauty of the "different" mathematics - the "secret" of the pluralities, opportunities for regulation of various elements and how to count these pluralities in certain situations; how to calculate the chance of an event through tasks of algebraic and geometric nature arising from our daily lives;
  • to reveal the beauty and creativity in mathematics and information technology;
  • children make their first steps in programming in intuitive environment;
  • to seek opportunities for participation of young talent at competitions, olympiads, the International Mathematical Kenguru, 4th grade tests;
  • to develop statistical thinking of children at primary school;
  • to stimulate interest in mathematics and its place in the world around us;
  • develop logical and spatial thinking of children and unconventional approach to discovering solutions;
  • to prepare them in advance about the upcoming stages in studying  mathematics and to encourage their participation in extracurricular events: contests, olympiads, competitions at national and international level;
  • develop in children skills such as observation, resourcefulness, ingenuity, combinations, concentration skills to discover the best strategy, and many others;
  • to teach the small children to teamwork;
  • to enrich their general knowledge and build their value system to solve problems in various fields of life;

The first module "Randomness + Mathematics" aims to introduce children to an interesting and entertaining world - the world of "statistical thinking" in a most accessible way.

The second module "Quantifying opportunities" was provoked by requiring students to describe all the possibilities and determine their number in a particular situation, to be able to collect and multiply opportunities involved.

The third module "In the world of numbers" will give children the opportunity to significantly expand and enrich ideas and methods to solve problems learned in school and to get acquainted with basic methods for solving unconventional tasks given at different mathematical competitions.

The fourth module “Familiar with IT” is dedicated to information technology - the children will make their first attempts to program in an intuitive environment, will master the rules of word, will learn about spreadsheets.
